Cardinal Newman Dance Marathon Breaks School and State Records!

The 2019 Cardinal Newman Dance Marathon raised $59,017 for Prisma Health Children’s Hospital, our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, on March 30. This was the school’s highest total and the most ever raised by a high school program in the State of South Carolina. Congratulations to all of our students and thanks to everyone who contributed to this worthy cause.

The 2019 Cardinal Newman Dance Marathon raised $59,017 for Prisma Health Children’s Hospital, our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, on March 30. This was the school’s highest total and the most ever raised by a high school program in the State of South Carolina.

For six hours, over two hundred Cardinal Newman students danced, stayed on their feet, engaged in activities, and made history by raising more than any single Dance Marathon has raised in the eight years since the school began hosting them. This year’s amount brings the total funds donated to the hospital over the last eight years to just over $300,000. In addition, for six months leading up to the marathon, students organized several fundraisers a month.

“I am enormously proud of our students! Their dedication, hard work and creativity amaze me every year,” said Principal Jacqualine Kasprowski. “I’m so grateful to our CN community for its support. Each year, our students and families rally together so that we can help make a difference in the lives of the children at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital.”

In 2012, Cardinal Newman was the first school in the State to partner with the USC Dance Marathon (USCDM) and the first junior high/high school in the Midlands to do so. Cardinal Newman has raised over $300,000 since this began. The USCDM Executive Committee works with Cardinal Newman students to help them plan and execute the event. USCDM started fourteen years ago and is the largest student-run philanthropy in South Carolina.
